Bud Coastal Museum and Ergan Coastal Fort

Bud Coastal Museum is a cultural and historical exhibition that provides insight into the history of the fishing village of Bud and the surrounding area, from the 1600s to the present day.

Ergan Coastal Fort is a World War II military history museum and a part of the Bud Coastal Museum.

The facility is a restored German war fort. Built at Ergan between 1941 and 1945, it includes underground installations with an operations room, command center, and accommodation quarters. The exhibition displays weapons, equipment, technical installations, and personal belongings. It also highlights local wartime events.

Ergan Coastal Fort was part of the Atlantic Wall, an extensive defense system stretching from Murmansk to the Spanish coast. Known by the Germans as "Festung Bud" (Fortress Bud), it was one of approximately 1,500 defensive positions spanning from Norway's border with the Soviet Union in the north to the Spanish border with France in the south.

Another must is the Atlantic highway

While staying at Hustadvika Panorama, a drive to the famed Atlantic Road is a must. This spectacular 8.3-kilometer stretch connects a series of islands between Bud and Kristiansund, zigzagging across the ocean with dramatic bridges and winding turns that make it one of the most scenic coastal drives in the world. Opened in 1989, the Atlantic Road was originally envisioned as a railway but evolved into a roadway that blends seamlessly into the rugged landscape.

The road’s engineering marvels, like the Storseisundet Bridge—often called the "roller-coaster bridge" for its dramatic curve—draw visitors from across the globe. This route not only offers breathtaking views of the North Sea but also immerses you in the spirit of Norway’s coastal resilience, having withstood countless storms during construction. Along the way, you’ll find designated viewing points perfect for photos, a picnic, or simply taking in the awe-inspiring surroundings. The Atlantic Road is more than a drive; it’s a journey through nature, history, and Norwegian ingenuity.
